But I was also taking stock of my life.” I think what I felt most when I completed this piece was surprise about what I had discovered about myself (and about major life changes). The style evolved into a Hopper-esque, anime-like narrative that somehow seemed a suitable setting for the blend of whimsical excitement and foreboding that I was feeling at this crossroad in my life. I didn’t expect to dwell so long in the past as I created layers of graff iti that recalled abandoned people and places. What I felt was a sudden awareness of the seriousness of the step I had just taken and a f lood of unexpected ennui to temper my thrill as I began my next journey.
