How Art Heals-WEB

83 35. Terri Grant WWW.TERRIGRANTART.COM WASHINGTON, USA The artist’s Band-Aid series is part of ER Stories. “I view the world metaphorically, through the lens of a tattered, bloody Band-Aid. I see beauty in a disheveled, developmentally delayed mother seeking care for her sick child, or a heroin addict bringing his overdosed friend into the ER. My life in medicine has helped me understand that often the most-important aspects of life are buried within us: the capacity for love and compassion. In this series, the viewer sees a Band-Aid, but upon closer inspection one sees the gold leaf, symbolic of the preciousness contained within us all. Hope Band-Aid is meant to remind us of our cour- age and inherent goodness.” I enjoyed questioning what I was feeling and then the process of creating, which included discoveries along the way. I enjoy the process more than the actual product. The joy is in the making.
