I kept thinking of how I could no longer touch her or have contact with her. I have done several small sculptures on this theme. They are all now in private and museum collections.” My feelings about my mother are constant to this day. From the beginning, I had many different thoughts about this loss—some comforting, others regretful. I am glad I was able to express the different feelings going through my mind through the several sculptures I created. “ Ghost Rings was my reaction to the visual horrors I saw on a trip to Auschwitz while exhibiting in a major fiber show in Łódź, Poland. The belongings of murdered prisoners, including their rings, shoes, clothing, and other confiscated items, were piled into impersonal displays creating a haunting memory.” In this small sculpture, I tried to convey the horrors and consequences of hatred that led to the Holocaust.
